Authorised Agent handling verification code process

As part of sweeping reforms under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, Companies House is introducing mandatory identity checks for company directors, people with significant control (PSCs), and anyone filing information on behalf of a business. The move is designed to crack down on fraud and improve corporate transparency.

What’s Changing?

  • Every director and PSC must complete an online ID verification.

  • Once approved, you’ll be issued a personal verification code unique to you as an individual.

  • This code is tied to you, not the company, and will be required for future filings.

Key Deadlines You Need to Know

  • Rollout begins: 18 November 2025

  • Companies House has set a 12-month transition period.

  • You must complete verification before your next confirmation statement is due.

At Accountable, we’ll be monitoring deadlines and will contact clients in advance of their filing dates. However, to avoid delays, we recommend completing verification as soon as possible.

How to Verify

You can complete the process directly with Companies House. It’s simple, takes around 5–10 minutes, and requires proof of identity such as a passport or driving licence.

Once completed, please share your personal code with us so we can ensure smooth filings on your behalf.

Can’t Do It Yourself?

We can act as an Authorised Agent and handle the process for you.

  • Fee: £25 + VAT per person

  • We’ll guide you through the steps and ensure compliance on your behalf.

Why This Matters

This isn’t a reform you can ignore. Without ID verification, Companies House will reject filings, creating risks of penalties and even company strike-off.
